bellytanks had another common repurpose other than hot rodders dry lakes streamliners... because they were a lot easier to find in Vietnam, and make pretty good canoes!

Found on http://tywkiwdbi.blogspot.com/2013/11/vietnam-war-military-trash-recycled-by.html

During the Vietnam War thousands of fuel tanks were jettisoned by U.S. combat aircraft. The photos above (credit Hilli Rathner) demonstrate how locals have repurposed the tanks into serviceable boats not dissimilar in design to traditional watercraft.

I just learned of a treasure of 60's dragstrip photos, Nomad Eternus Flikr page

Above, the only photo I've seen of Danny Ongais, who you may have not learned was an Army paratrooper, AHRA and NHRA champion, and among other famous teams, he drove for Roland Leong, John Mazmanian, Dragmaster, and while partnered with Mickey Thompson they broke 295 records at Bonneville. He won a lot of SCCA races, qualified for a lot of Indy 500, and what else I don't know

above, plexi windows in the front of a belly tanker... must have been a blast to drive!

Above, that is some air induction!

2013 LA Roadster show

interesting good looking hood stripes, placing them in line with the headers was a great choice

above, called the Ugly Duckling

something about the grill to radiator surround looked odd and cool to me

interesting reflection similar to a flamejob from the side louvers

Best looking '38 I've seen

Above, and why? No idea. To each their own I suppose

not often you see a Greenbriar (Corvair van)

and the show wasn't strickly Ford and Chevy, above a Desoto, below a Plymouth

cool tailights

just liking the license plate

with the side cowls, but not the top.. looks good, probably better aerodynamics and not very hampering to cooling

this beaut was at Viva Las Vegas as well, here are a couple more shots: http://justacarguy.blogspot.com/2013/04/my-award-for-most-stunning-paint-at.html

two tone cars were good looking, it's a shame that chrome side molding and multi colored cars is so rare now from the factories
